A regular speaker at luxury marketing strategy conferences and an achieved business woman Tamara Mellon, is the founder and CEO of Jimmy Choo. This famous brand of luxury accessories is well known for its shoes which are amongst the most looked for by fashion addicts might they be young ʻheiressʼ or working mums. UK based Jimmy Choo was initially launched by Mellon with a loan from her father (about 150 000 £). Former wife of billionaire heir Matthew Mellon, but a self entrepreneur Tamara Mellon saw the opportunity for a brand that would sell exclusively shoes and would build its identity on this specific accessory design to then evolve towards a larger portfolio of products including bags. She bought the brand from independant shoemaker Jimmy Shoo to developp it and turned it into a luxury brand from the late 90ʼs. Although still at the head of the firm, she sold the company she had founded in a deal of £185 million in 2007. The business has grown with reprensentation in concept stores, international luxury department stores and self owned ʼboutiquesʼ. The concept is even extending to clothes and will start to do so with the launch of a complete signature collection with mogull retailer H&M, proposing shoes, bags and women and men fashion garnments.
This British accessory brand has really brought glamour to our wardrobes and fashionistas will get hungry to discover this new collection that will be available from November 14th in around 200 H&M stores across the world.
“We are privileged to be among the fashion greats who have been affiliated with H&M so far, and to be designing a collection appealing to fashion savvy, street smart women, and to be including some great pieces for men, too. Jimmy Choo will bring to H&M a sophisticated, fashion forward, accessible and glamorous collection – the perfect party pieces to buy now and then wear out that night!” Tamara Mellon, Founder and President, Jimmy Choo.
This will be the first time that one of H&Mʼs partnership with fashion designer extends to shoe edition. “We adore Jimmy Chooʼs shoes and bags. They are glamorous and sexy, and they add instant style to the simplest of outfits. I like the way we have worked with clothes to accessorize the shoes and bags rather than the other way around. This collaboration is particularly exciting because itʼs our first shoe designer collection. Itʼs a joy to be able to offer top end designer shoes and bags of excellent quality to our customers.” Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor, H&M.
Since its launch in 1996, Jimmy Choo has been such a phenomenal success that the brand name has become part of popular culture – say the words “Jimmy Choo”, and you know you mean shoes. In Hollywood, Jimmy Choo shoes have become a red-carpet essential, and have been worn at the Oscars by winners such as Cate Blanchett, Halle Berry and Hilary Swank among many other actresses. The famous Jimmy Choo shoes will be at the heart of the exclusive collection for H&M, but thereʼs more. Jimmy Choo has also become well known for its bags, and for H&M there will be a whole range of accessories to complete the look.
